City Coffee Guide: New York City

City Coffee Guide: New York City

When people say that New York is the city that never sleeps, it’s probably because of all the caffeine. With over 3,000 coffee shops in of all shapes, sizes, and varieties, you’d be hard pressed to find a good cup of coffee anywhere in the city. Beyond your specialty cafes, large scale Specialty Coffee roasters have branched out to restaurants, bakeries, and even fast casual dining restaurants (i.e. Shake Shack). You’re simply spoilt for choice, and for this City Guide, we’re going to focus on the two key boroughs of New York, Manhattan and Brooklyn. For your New York City coffee hook-up, here’s what we recommend.

DAY 1: Upper East Side

Variety Coffee Roasters

Why: You’re starting off your day and you’ve decided to hit up Museum Mile. Before you bask in the art and history of the different museums, swing by for a cup over at Variety Coffee Roasters. Hailing from Williamsburg, Variety keeps things simple with its menu, but deliver a great cup of coffee every time.

What You Should Order: Grab a cup of drip coffee to help kickstart the long day ahead.

Estimated Caffeine Level: 140mg

Variety Coffee Roasters

1269 Lexington Ave., New York, NY 10028

M-S: 7:00AM - 9:00PM

Birch Coffee

Why: Once you’ve finished up Museum Mile and want to head to your next destination, take a swing by Birch Coffee. This quaint roughly 10-seat shop pulls its shots from a uniquely upholstered La Marzocco Strada. The street the café is on is a nice and quiet one, allowing you to either sit in or outside the café with your coffee in tow to recharge before your next destination.

What You Should Order: Choose between a Flat White, Latte or Cappuccino, depending on how you want your milk. It will be the perfect cup to get you back on your feet.

Estimated Caffeine Level: 80mg

Birch Coffee

171 East 88th St., New York, NY 10128

M-F: 6:30AM - 7:00PM

S-S: 7:00AM - 7:00PM

DAY 2: NoMad

Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Why: Between the hustle and bustle of New York, you’re bound to take the occasional pit stop. Walk in to Stumptown first New York outpost over at the Ace Hotel. Have your coffee of choice by the bench as New Yorkers pass by, and maybe have one of their fine pastries to snack on.

Recommended Order: Have a cold brew on draft and watch as New Yorkers get to rushing to their next destinations.

Estimated Caffeine Level: 200mg

Stumptown Coffee Roasters

18 West 29th St., New York, NY 10001
