City Coffee Guide: Bangkok

City Coffee Guide: Bangkok

Bangkok is one of those cities that might not immediately pop out as a coffee crawl destination, but don’t let those impressions get to you. Beyond their popular marketplaces, temples, and must-eat food destinations, Bangkok has a lot to offer for the discerning coffee lover. We’ve found some interesting districts that will not only make for a great coffee crawl, but also a nice walking tour of a new, more modern side of Bangkok. From creative signature beverages to award winning coffee brews, let’s explore Bangkok’s vibrant and bustling coffee scene.

DAY 1: Thong Lo/Ekkamai

Pacamara Boutique Coffee Roasters

Why: When you first hit up the trendy Thong Lo district of Bangkok, make your first stop over here at Pacamara Coffee Roasters. The Thong Lo shop doesn’t just serve as their flagship café. The space also houses their Specialty Coffee Lab. Start your day out here with some brunch eats and some fine coffee. Thong Lo has so much to offer, so better make sure to load up and perk up before heading out.

What You Should Order: A filter to go with your brunch order would be a great way to start the day. Have it made in whatever method you choose like the Aeropress or the Chemex.

Estimated Caffeine Level: 140mg

Pacamara Specialty Coffee Roasters

66 Thong Lo 25 Alley, Khlong Toei Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110

M-S: 8:00AM -6:30PM

ROOTS AT THE COMMONS

Why: At the heart of Roots is a philosophy called cup-to-farm, which you might think is a typo on the first read but is a social initiative by these coffee fanatics of giving back part of the profits to their producers and farmers. This drive to give back is reflected in how great the coffee they serve is, with a variety of choices enough to get your heart pumping (before the caffeine of course).

What You Should Order: Be on the lookout for their seasonal cold brew options for something not only different but limited as well.

Estimated Caffeine Level: 200mg

Roots at the COMMONS

the COMMONS (Market Fl.) Thonglor 17, Sukhumvit 55 Bangkok 10110

M-Th: 8:00AM - 7:30PM

F-S: 8:00AM - 8:30PM

DAY 2: Sukhumvit/Ekkamai

Hands and Heart Café

Why: Hands and Heart Café is a beautiful minimalist café in the Sukhumvit area run by 2019 Thai Brewers Cup Champion Fuangfu Jirathitivanich. They don’t only serve a great cup of coffee (which they roast by the way), but just a quick walk across the street is their full-service restaurant where they serve a fine selection of meals, wine, and of course, their coffee.

Recommended Order: The pour over coffee here is a no-brainer. Relax with your cup while enjoying the beautiful minimalist interiors or have yourself a cup while having breakfast to start your day.

Estimated Caffeine Level: 140mg

Hands and Heart Café

33 Sukhumvit 38 Alley, Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110
